Adidas AlphaEdge 4D Review

Adidas AlphaEdge 4D

Bringing unusual, shiny design and equipped with a so called 4D-midsole technology. That’s what you get from the first impression from Adidas Alphaedge 4D. That it sounds too fancy? Yes and no….

I had the shoes for a month for testing and ran in them some 60 miles. And first thing being said, they really look very cool. The combination of white and green looks surprisingly very good and most importantly, if you are a night runner, they will make you stand out at night a lot. Even from the distance of 130 feet I remained visible. A big thumb up for this attribute.

Next, Adidas Alphaedge 4D is ideal for short runs. Because the truth is that the shoe is quite heavy. In my size 44 reaching almost 11.7 ounces,… it doesn’t truly work the best for long runs. I got used to it, but still had a feeling that it is limiting the overall performance. As for the comfort… they are harder and less bouncy than Ultraboost. Which is a bit surprising because the price is almost twice or by at least a third higher than for other Adidas Ultraboost shoes.

Be prepared to really dive into your pocket. The shoe is even now in 2020 overpriced. And when you take into consideration the aspect that Adidas Alphaedge 4D was released during the fall of 2018, it is an extreme price even after such a long time.

Finally, the midsole. 4D they call it. Unfortunately, that is from Adidas just a marketing strategy. This is a normal 3D custom-molded midsole having carbon fibres inside. Which is nice, that makes the shoe resistant against harder, rockier kinds of surface. But it is nothing new that much. You may find it also in a bit similar version of Nike, in Nike Zoom Fly 3. And that one is even cheaper and with overall better quality cushioning than this one.

If I went for this shoe as for a training shoe, I would better save it for walking on a difficult terrain or for short runs only. For running, I would always take Ultraboost. That is always the safest bet. As for the design, it looks cool, as I said, that’s for sure. From the point of running, though, it is not that important and the price is simply not worth it. Better save it for a different higher-quality running shoe.
