As most of runners, I also really hate winter. Plenty of rain showers with unpleasant wind and temperatures dropping to zero degrees. Those are the tipical conditions here, in the Netherlands, from mid October until later March. For an incredible weather like that, Gore-tex sneakers come into real hand. For that reason I tried and tested the new model Adidas Terrex Agravic GTX and I ran in them approximately 200 kilometers in different conditions and places.
First of all, I must say I have really liked the Gore-tex upper. And personally, I think that no good trail shoes in these days should appear on the market without that layer. Thank God, Adidas in this case sticked to that general rule and did a really good job. The shoe upper is made of one piece of mesh so that you won´t feel any seams in the structure that could hurt you when running. Actually, the shoe I found very comfortable and thanks to that one-piece upper, the water isolation complemented by Gore-tex technology really keeps the feet dry even in the medium or heavier rain.
What stands against this advantage is the fact that in hotter days, the feet keep sweating easily inside. I tested it in the temperature of 15-20 °C one day and I could already feel it. You can imagine then what it would mean to have these Adidas Terrex Agravic GTX when it is humid and around 30 Degrees. In general, I wouldn´t recommend them into hot weather. Under any circumstances!!!
The Continental sole of these shoes surprised me the most. I tried them as my 2nd pair of trail running shoes only because mostly I do run rather on asphalt or concrete. But why was it so surprising? Take a look at the distance between the rubber lugs. As the space between them is very wide, the chances of grit being squeezed in between, are seriously super low! I found this model similar to the rubber outsole of Nike Air Zoom Wildhorse 4 and almost uncomparable to series of runnin shoes such as ON Cloud. I I experienced this problem a bit even with Brooks Glycerin 13 and found it disappointing and of course annoying as well. But this shoe, the outsole is really great and it is just perfect for long distances even on some really aggressive surface. I also tried climbing and jumping over the trunks in the forest and there were almost no situations when I would slip on them.
On the other hand, I am very negative about the lacing system. I don´t know why, but the Adidas decided to put rounded laces for these shoes and of course as it is usual, there appeared some serious problems when having them not tightened strongly. I solved it only by using a double knot. I think this is especially crucial for trail running shoes, as in fact, the conditions will not be helpful and may cause in the forest unlacing even more happening.
Overall, I think it is a very high quality shoe that is true to size and that was a really good fit for me specifically. Of course, I could keep going and singing odes about its dynamic midsole. Specifically speaking, Adidas Boost that makes the shoe very good for energy return from each tread. Or that I really like the proposed colourful design but rather I wanted more to highlight what seemed to me very specific and unusual for a running shoe like Adidas Terrex Agravic XT GTX.
According to Adidas company, Adidas Edge Lux are shoes for runners, specifically for women. In my own opinion, it is just a shoe that offers interesting design, breathable material and boasts by Bounce midsole. For some people plays also an important role the fact that the model runs true to size (at least, that´s what they claim in some reviews online that I read before buying them). Are you maybe missing in my part that I haven´t said a word that it is also a running shoe? Well, that´s simply because I think it´s not…
