Can you imagine more bright and shiny-looking running shoes than ASICS Women’s Roadblast Tokyo? When looking back to the past, frankly speaking, this is one of the most striking colour of the upper that we have come across in ASICS so far. Striped rosy and black, ASICS Roadblast running shoes cannot be overlooked easily. And much more… Please read our tester´s review down below and get to know whether to buy these shoes or rather avoid them.
First impression
I got the ASICS Women’s Roadblast Tokyo in the US size 8. After slipping in, it felt moderately wide, a bit more on the wide side than usual. That I can compare with my Nike Pegasus 37. Those are definitely a lot narrower. In any case, the feel was very soft, comfortable and actually, as I have flat feet, I truly appreciated the fact that Roadblast Tokyo was a wider running shoe. I immediately understood how comfortable these shoes probably would be.
I also put them on a scale and the weight was just around 223 grams (7.87 oz). That is a very lightweight model, I would say. Perfect for running longer distances. At least, that was my expectation. The overall feel was very soft, no lack or too much material that would cause me scratches.
Great upper
The reason behind ASICS Roadblast Tokyo´s low weight lies in the upper and the midsole material. The upper is seamless, it is a one-piece upper that is amazingly thin. So when I went for a run in these shoes, I never felt sweaty. I used them for running inside most of the time on a treadmill, in a nicely warm gym. Even then, I felt my feet breathing all the time during the workout. On the other hand, when going for a run outside, the colours of the upper are so reflective, that they perfectly secure you at night.
Not that I would go running at night too often and when I go, I almost only run in the city centre. But let’s be honest… you never know. What makes the shoes so shiny is not just the upper itself but also the orange-red shoelaces. And everything feels well-balanced complementing each other. So, as for visibility in low light conditions, ASICS Roadblast Tokyo is the best of the best.
Low-quality midsoles?
Flytefoam Blast midsoles make ASICS Roadblast Tokyo perfectly light but they feel too firm. At least, that was my outcome after a few months. I compared them with my Adidas Supernova back at home and I must say that that one is definitely better cushioned and is better made for outside runs than this model of ASICS. The Roadblast Tokyo´s midsoles feel cheaper. Back in time, after just 50 miles, I noticed that they started being worn out already a bit.
Therefore, I solely used the shoes for gym sessions and running inside on a treadmill and soft surface. Hard to guess how they may have ended if I would have continued wearing them for running in the city centre. Anyway, I loved them for inside wear a lot so in the end, I didn’t mind that much.
Perfect outsoles?
AHAR Plus Outsole is a compound of the outsole pads. It is supposed to offer a better durable compound and traction than for example ASICS High Abrasion Rubber. To be honest, I have seen nothing special about it. It is just a normal nicely coloured rubber outsole that is perfectly reflective as the rest of the shoes. And that’s it.
Last few words
I hope that I managed to point out everything important about these shoes and didn’t miss out anything important. Basically, I would say that in case you are up for short distances or love running inside, this ASICS Roadblast Tokyo is the best for it. Even though it doesn’t have the best quality soles and midsoles, for lighter runners, it is still a good choice. Moreover, the colours are not only adorable, but they are so reflective that for running at night the shoes are just perfect. I definitely recommend them.
