We found Adidas Alphaboost perfect for especially two main reasons. Foremost, they have perfect cushioning and for second, they very well managed our testing under a bit more difficult weather conditions than we would have expected. While comparing it to the previous model Adidas Alphabounce, let’s take a look at the model a bit closer and discover whether this might be a good purchase for you in the future or not.
Even though Adidas Alphaboost and Alphabounce seem very similar, Adidas Alphaboost is from look a bit more robust and large in all considered aspects. That is quite surprising as the matter of fact that Adidas Alphaboost is actually lighter. And not just a bit. We barely got over 300 grams (10.5 oz), while Alphabounce went easily to 340 grams (12 oz) for both men and women versions. And you will definitely notice that these shoes are very light as soon as you put them on.
The difference is also between the models if you take a look at the price. While Adidas Alphabounce is being sold around 60 to 70 dollars, the price of Adidas Alphaboost is way much higher. Hard to say if it is a clear signal that this newer model of Adidas is of a bigger quality. But the truth is that the shoes have inserted dual-density cushioning and by combining the two layers of EVA, they tend to perfectly spring back to your feet. They are not as firm in the midsole as Adidas Alphabounce, but rather more energetic. And that is probably the reason why Adidas have put the Alphaboost among higher priced running models.
The same as Adidas Alphabounce, Adidas Alphaboost also has a small finger hook at the heel section. So you can easily slip inside and head out for a workout or run without any difficulties. Which is not unique nowadays, but quite convenient. As mentioned before, we tested the shoe under different weather conditions. We wanted to know how it would manage in a heavy rain because the shoe boasts about Continental outsole. And we don’t consider it that exceptional speaking about innovations in running shoes. Continental rubber outsole you may also find at many other Adidas shoes as well (Terrex Agravic GTX, Ultraboost 20,…).
But this time, it is modified by two orange areas in the forefoot and rarefoot that are positioned on the external side of the running shoe. It feels rougher for touch in comparison to the rest of the outsole. The reason that lays behind it is the fact that it is supposed to make the shoe less slipping on a wet surface. How did it go for our testing? Pretty much excellent. Adidas Alphaboost’s outsole went without a problem on polished stony stairs, held the feet safely on a steeper, muddy slope as well. Where a disadvantage got uncovered though, was the shoe’s upper. It is very comfortable but too weak to hold the foot in all situations stable and safe. If there were more material on lateral sides, it would make the shoe then just excellent.
To sum it up, Adidas Alphaboost surprised at more than one place. It proved to be of high quality as for midsole, comfort and moreover, for unexpected weather conditions as well. If we would recommend this model? The answer is that for sure. Any running activity, except for some extremes will this shoe manage without any problem.
These shoes are crap, the shoestrings keep coming untied, do not waste your money. I have to tie shoes at least 20 times a day
