If you are searching for a pair of ultimately lightweight running shoes and don´t mind a bit of experimenting, you should definitely try Reebok Liquid Floatride Run. From the very first moment, after you see them, you will definitely agree on my opinion, that the shoe design is simply very unusual. Maybe Reebok got inspired by the old version of Nike Kukini from the year 2000. Hard to say, the upper is very similar to Nike, the outsole is very different though.
Anyway, on nowadays market, the shoe is really unusual. Not surprisingly, Reebok came the last year in 2018 with them only as with a limited edition. As an upgraded version of previous model Reebok Floatride Run, these go even into a more extreme and are playing with the upgraded version of the original Floatride Run technology. The changes can be seen at the whole shoe so right now we will take a look at them.
On the other hand, as you cannot modify the tightness of the shoe, anyone willing to buy them should rather try them first. The risk they would not fit on feet is for sure higher than in case of a traditional model of running shoes. The last thing about the upper… it is thin, breathable but of course the durability seems lower. I didn´t try running in any forest, so I cannot say the shoes would be after a few kilometers falling apart, but in this case I would not even try it. It is an outdoor shoe just for the road as a matter of fact the upper is really soft.
Reebok decided to tune the shoe and incorporated a new technology that is added into the upper, being called Liquid Lace. Secondly, the outsole, being called Liquid Grip, was adjusted and changed as well. So first the upper. If you compare it to other running models, you will definitely think it is quite unique.
Here, simply forget about the lacing system. These shoes don´t need any laces. The company made a brave but innovative step and created a stretch-to-fit shoe which fits closely around the top of your feet. Thus, you don´t have to be scared that the shoe would take off easily. After having them tested on the road and running for more than 50 kilometres, I can confirm it is safe and holds on the feet appropriately. Thanks to the fact there are no laces, you will never have to be scared with these shoes that the laces may untie and thus stop you while running.
The last part, I wanted to leave my comment on, is the outsole. While the upper catches your attention for being very special and distinctive, what I think is then even more important part is the lightweight outsole. It is made of 3D stripes, that have some space in between, so that the outsole is created from a significantly less material than normally. Thus, the shoe weighs only around 170-180 grams each. 🙂 Don´t expect though taking these shoes into a heavy rain. As soon as you are on the wet ground, the outsole gets really noisy. Also and very important! I noticed having the outsole being worn slightly only after first 20 kilometers. And that I think clearly signals a lower durability.
From these points I would call it an ideal shoe worth wearing for rather indoor sport activities than a training shoe. Also the fact they look fancy and bring lots of comfort, I wouldn´t hesitate to go out in them. This unusual design you simply don´t see every day. 😉 For the price, it is a good deal investment.
